During a building inspection, where should the inspection actually begin?

The interior living spaces

The roof

The basement or crawlspace

The outside of the building

Begin outside the building. An exterior-first approach gives you the overall condition and safety context, letting you spot issues such as foundation cracks, poor drainage, moisture intrusion, and roof-line problems from ground level before you step inside. This helps plan safe access to the interior and prevents chasing problems that originate outside. Interior spaces may reveal symptoms, but knowing exterior conditions first explains why those symptoms exist and guides where to look next. Roof, basement/crawlspace, and interior areas all matter, but starting outside is the most efficient and safer way to begin the inspection.
